Maria Cheng, an Associated Press Medical Writer just shared yesterday a very delightful and somehow relieving news pertaining to our brothers and sisters in the far off Africa regarding the new advantage/ability of the community to check drug potency and authenticity by just one text message. The said idea was from a project called mPedigree which was started in Nigeria long before it was decided to be adopted in Africa. Surely this wonderful project would benefit far more people and truly be a blessing on the part of the medical arena.
Drug faking has already been found all across the continent changing expiration dates, drug names, even worst, the content itself. Sometimes asking people whom we think are reliable is a bit too risky step for they can be exactly the ones who could fool the consumers. This new brand new project is one great help linking technological advances and benefits to the more so, delicate and fragile matter of health. Hopefully no one would ever think of going against the system and again, find ways of destroying an effort full work that can help save a thousand lives. Meanwhile, is just best to do simple ways of preventing ourselves from obtaining fake drugs through various means such as buying from trusted sources, contacting our local health agencies or anyone sufficient enough to verify these things; just be careful as always and look out for the latest advances that could change the old system of abusers.
